At the beginning of a new year I seem to often to a whimsical, fantasy or sci-fi themed painting. Wonder why that is…
I’m hoping to get this finished in early October. This is the first piece I’ve worked on since my eye issue became bothersome. So I probably shouldn’t have picked something with numerous tiny faces, but I am managing and adapting.
I’ll also be away for my pre-radiation surgery and then the actual week of radiation on my eye, so timing will be tight and I don’t really know what my vision or even my mood will be afterward.
I had a little vacation down in Puerto Rico recently, and maybe my head is still in that warm winter getaway. So here is the outline for my first thing to work on in 2023.
It wasn’t really a break, just busy with other ‘life stuff’, well yes that did include time to enjoy the summer.
Anyway I’m back at the easel and here is the outline for my current creation.
I am also putting together my 2023 calendar and hope to have it sent to the printers in a week or two.
It’s great to have a busy holiday season, but it seems like forever since I was at the drawing board.
I also have this ‘dream’ of coming up with a whole bunch of ideas and outlines now to carry me through the whole year. The hope would be that I’d be more proficient and could quickly finish up one work and move right on to the next, without waiting for inspiration or taking time to develop an idea. Knowing how I usually work though, I don’t think I’ll make it happen. In the past when I’ve planned out several pieces at once, I’ve only managed to complete a few of them. Maybe I lose interest, my head is just not in the same place it was when I was creating the concept.
I know I have been lax in posting in progress pics and other non ‘new release’ blog articles and I would like to say, ‘going forward I am going to be better at it.’ I will do what I can to improve, but the truth is when it comes to my ‘art time’ I usually find I need to spend it working on new stuff or fulfilling orders or the less exciting paper work, bill paying, supply buying.
Anyway, I have my outline for this years winter/holiday piece and am excited to get to work on it.
Much like the seasons here in Vermont, I’m going straight from a summer painting into fall and Halloween.
Granted, I always try to start my Halloween piece in early or mid-September so that I can be sure to have it finished so that it can be ordered and delivered prior to October 31.
I can’t let this summer go by without a beach scene! Get the van, get a tan, grab a man!
Working on a new ‘mini’ (8 1/2” x 11” original) painting using only shades of gray/black/white.
When I’m making my annual calendar I often will look for significant anniversaries to add a bit of interest. For 2019’s calendar there were several from 50 years ago that gave me ideas for future works. I’ve started on a couple of them and hope to have them finished and released by the time the anniversaries roll around.
Here are partial images of the outlines I’ve done for 2 of these 1969 inspired paintings.
Can you figure out which events these each represent?
Welcome to the art of Michael Breyette.
Michael's pastel paintings capture the stunning beauty of the male form with warmth and sensitivity while never shying away from lustful eroticism.
