This is the final preliminary pencil outline made before starting the pastel painting. While my pastel paintings are created from these final outlines, often elements may be added, eliminated or changed in the finished work.
“With the concept being a guy working out in a gym, it’s was obvious that there’d be gym equipment in the background, but once I gave him the earbuds, it became more about ‘being in the zone’. So I started to think about minimizing the workout equipment, until I decided to not even put them in my final outline, and that I’d just put some blurry shapes in a dark background to suggest them. ”
